Tips for Rounding Image Corners

  • Small radius values (5-15px) create subtle, modern rounded corners that look great on social media thumbnails and UI cards.
  • For profile pictures and avatar images, use a medium radius (20-40px) that matches common social platform roundings.
  • Large radius values (50px+) create a pill-shaped or nearly circular image — perfect for badges, buttons, and creative photo effects.

Frequently Asked Questions — Round Corners

Is the round corners tool really free?

Yes, completely free. No registration, no hidden charges, no watermarks, and no file size limits. All processing happens locally in your browser — your images never leave your device.

How does the corner rounding work?

The tool uses Canvas 2D path clipping to create perfectly smooth, anti-aliased rounded corners. It draws a rounded rectangle path using quadratic Bézier curves at each corner, applies it as a clipping mask, and renders your image inside the clipped area. The result is clean, precise rounded corners without jagged edges.

What does the corner radius slider do?

The corner radius slider controls how aggressively the corners are rounded. At 0px, corners remain perfectly square (no change). The slider maximum is dynamically set to half the image's shortest side — so a 1000×800 image maxes out at 400px, while a 4000×3000 image allows up to 1500px. This ensures you can always create fully rounded (pill-shaped) corners regardless of image size.

What image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, AVIF, GIF, TIFF, SVG, HEIC and more. For formats that support transparency (PNG, WebP), the rounded corners will have a transparent background. For JPG output, the background around the rounded corners will be white.

Will rounding corners reduce image quality?

No. Rounding corners is a non-destructive clipping operation that preserves the full resolution and quality of your original image. The clip path is applied using the browser's native anti-aliased rendering, producing smooth curves without any loss of detail in the visible area.

Can I round corners of images with existing transparency?

Yes. Images with transparent areas, including PNG files with alpha channel, work perfectly. The rounded corner clipping is applied on top of the existing image content, and the final result preserves transparency in both the original transparent areas and the newly rounded corners (for PNG and WebP output).

How large of an image can I process?

Our tool handles images up to 50 megapixels (50,000,000 pixels total). If your image exceeds this limit, you'll see a warning and can try a smaller version before rounding the corners.
