Tips for Creating Great Image Grids

  • Use images with consistent aspect ratios for the most uniform grid appearance. Cover mode works well when all images have similar proportions.
  • For thumbnail grids and product catalogs, a small gap (2-4px) with cover mode creates a professional, clean look.
  • Contain mode is ideal when you need to display the full image content without cropping, such as for comparison grids or portfolio previews.

Frequently Asked Questions — Image Grid Layout

Is the image grid layout tool free?

Yes, completely free. No registration, no hidden charges, no watermarks, and no file size limits. All processing happens locally in your browser.

How many images can I arrange in a grid?

You can upload between 2 and 99 images. The tool arranges them in the grid according to your specified number of columns, flowing left-to-right and top-to-bottom.

What is the difference between Cover and Contain mode?

Cover mode crops the image to completely fill each cell — parts of the image may be cropped out, but the cell is fully filled. Contain mode resizes the image to fit entirely within the cell with its original aspect ratio preserved — the cell may have empty space on the sides or top/bottom, but the full image is visible.

What image formats are supported?

All common image formats are supported: JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, AVIF, and more. The downloaded result is saved as PNG to preserve quality and support transparency.

Can I reorder the images in my grid?

Images are arranged in the grid in the order they appear in the upload area. You can drag to reorder them before generating the grid layout.

What happens if I upload very large images?

Each cell in the grid has a maximum dimension of 2000×2000 pixels. Images larger than this are downscaled proportionally. The total output canvas is limited to 50 megapixels (50,000,000 pixels) for reliable browser performance.

What background color does the grid use?

The grid uses a white background by default. If you use Contain mode with images that have different aspect ratios, the gaps between the image edges and cell boundaries will appear as white space.
