Free Online Auto Contrast Tool — Enhance Photos with One Click

Easily enhance the contrast of your images automatically with our free online tool. Using histogram stretching technology, it analyzes each image's brightness distribution and expands the tonal range to use the full 0-255 spectrum — making dark areas darker, bright areas brighter, and revealing hidden detail throughout. Perfect for fixing flat, washed-out photos, improving underexposed images, or quickly batch-enhancing multiple photos for consistent results. All processing happens in your browser for complete privacy.

1. Upload

Upload one or multiple images by dragging them onto the upload area or clicking to browse your files. Batch upload supported.

2. Batch Upload

Each image is automatically enhanced as it loads — no settings or adjustments needed. The results appear in the list instantly.

3. Download

Download each image individually, or click Download All to save everything as a single ZIP archive. Remove any unwanted images with the delete button.

Tips for Using Auto Contrast

  • Auto contrast works best on flat, low-contrast images where the histogram is concentrated in a narrow range. The algorithm stretches it across the full spectrum.
  • For already high-contrast images, auto contrast may make minimal changes since the tonal range is already well-distributed.
  • Processing multiple images? Upload them all at once — each one is processed automatically with the same high-quality algorithm. Use Download All to export the batch as ZIP.

Frequently Asked Questions — Auto Contrast

Is the auto contrast tool really free?

Yes, completely free. No registration, no hidden charges, no watermarks, and no file size limits. All processing happens locally in your browser — your images never leave your device.

How does auto contrast work?

Auto contrast uses histogram stretching — it scans every pixel in the image to find the darkest and lightest values (using 0.5% percentile clipping to ignore outliers), then expands the entire tonal range so the darkest becomes pure black (0) and the lightest becomes pure white (255). All intermediate values are linearly remapped. This maximizes contrast while preserving the overall brightness relationships.

Does auto contrast require any settings?

No! Unlike manual contrast adjustment tools, auto contrast works fully automatically. Simply upload your images and the enhancement is applied instantly. This makes it perfect for batch processing multiple photos quickly.

What image formats are supported?

JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, AVIF, GIF, TIFF, SVG, HEIC and more. The enhanced result is saved in your original upload format, preserving compatibility.

Will auto contrast over-process my images?

Our algorithm uses 0.5% percentile clipping at both ends of the histogram, which prevents extreme outlier pixels (like a single bright reflection or a single dark shadow) from distorting the result. This produces natural-looking contrast enhancement without the harsh clipping or blown-out highlights that simpler auto-contrast methods can cause.

How is auto contrast different from manual contrast?

Auto contrast analyzes each specific image to find its optimal tonal range and stretches accordingly — no guesswork needed. Manual contrast (available in our separate Contrast tool) applies a uniform adjustment that you control with a slider. Auto contrast is best for quick one-click enhancements, while manual contrast gives you creative control.

How large of an image can I process?

Our tool handles images up to 50 megapixels (50,000,000 pixels total). If an individual image exceeds this limit, you'll see a warning and can try a smaller version. Batch processing supports multiple images at once.
